1040 Quality Manufacturing Steel
Manufacturing steel, also known as unalloyed machine steel and carbon steel, are alloy steels containing approximately %0,20 - 60 carbon. It is also called carbon steel due to its high carbon content. Although the hardenability of the manufacturing steel increases depending on the amount of carbon it contains, the toughness value decreases. In applications requiring higher hardness, non-alloy steels with high carbon content should be preferred. Since its strength value is low, manufacturing steel is preferred in machine parts that require low strength. Manufacturing steel, which is frequently used in parts such as shafts, pins, gears, gear parts, bolts, axles, is preferred in products such as mould parts, machine parts, hooks. They have moderate mechanical abilities according to the amount of carbon. Since manufacturing steel is not sufficient for high strength or thick section parts, lower alloyed or alloyed steels should be preferred. The welding and surface treatment capability of manufacturing steel is low. Depending on the amount of carbon, it is one of the steels suitable for heat treatment and hardening. While semetation is applied to low carbon manufacturing steels, flame or induction surface hardening can be applied to high carbon steels. In addition to SAE 1030, SAE 1040, SAE 1050, SAE 1060 quality manufacturing steels, there are also equivalent grades such as C30, C40, C50 and C60. Sulphur alloyed manufacturing steels are generally used for machining. The sulphur content of sulphur alloyed steels with names such as C30R, C40R, C50R, C60R is %0,020 - 0,035.
